CONNECTION

MM has a dual purpose input circuit. This means that the red sense wire can be cable tied along a sparkplug HT lead (Inductive Connection) OR it can be connected directly into a voltage supply (Direct Connection).

Inductive Connection
MM can be fitted to all petrol engines with spark ignition!
Connection is by laying MM's red sense wire along the sparkplug HT lead for about 100mm (4") and cable tieing it on. The black earth wire is connected to the metal chassis, frame or to the metal of the engine itself.

If the engine does not have a sparkplug HT lead (e.g. Yamaha YZF, Honda CRF, Suzuki RMZ or Kawasaki KZF with "pencil coil"), then the red sense wire can be connected to the kill-switch wire. See
Direct Connection below.

In rare cases this kill-switch wire does not have enough voltage to operate MM. The only 'bike we've come across where this applies is the 2003 Yamaha WR250. See specifics regarding this 'bike under
Direct Connection below.

In all cases MM’s black earth wire must be connected to the frame.

Direct Connection
If the 'bike has no spark plug HT lead, then direct connection is necessary.
Direct connection involves connecting the red sense wire directly into a voltage feed. Using this method, MM can be fitted to the following types of motors:

a) All petrol spark ignition engines using a magneto.
b) All petrol spark ignition engines using 6 volts with a generator/alternator.
c) All petrol spark ignition engines using 12 volts with a generator/alternator.
d) Electric motors. See specific details further down this page.
e) Diesel engines. See specific details further down this page.

Some of these applications are somewhat specific, so please contact our technical department if you are uncertain of your application.
In all cases MM's black earth wire must be connected to the frame, ground or chassis.
Read further for some specific connection types.

Yamaha WR250
For this application connect the red sense wire into the motorcycle’s headlight circuit feed wire (located behind the plastic headlight surround). This wire is connected to the alternator, so MM will run whenever the engine is running, irrespective of whether the headlight is on or off.
Connect the black earth wire to a clean chassis earth.

Yamaha YZF, Honda CRF, Suzuki RMZ or Kawasaki KZF
For this application connect the red sense wire into the motorcycle’s kill switch wire.

Electric Motors.
MM it will operate from 5VDC to well over 600VAC continuous. In the case of the larger voltages, an external resistor may need to be fitted. As successful operation across such a large range of voltages depends largely on the waveform, please contact our technical department before proceeding.

Diesel engines.
MM will only work on diesel engines with an electric fuel solenoid, alternator or constant ignition feed whilst the engine is running (for instruments etc). This covers most types of applications. MM's red sense wire can be connected to:
a) the fuel solenoid feed (if it has one)
b) the ignition/instruments feed (if it is constant while the engine is running and absent when it is not running)
